The SAILS on our BENETEAU OCEANIS 423. Boat Tour

The SAILS on our BENETEAU OCEANIS 423. Welcome to our sail boat tour where in this video we take you through the sail setup on SeaScape, our Beneteau Oceanis 423. Robin explains how each of our sails work and how to control and adjust them according to the wind direction and strength.
Like most sailboats cruising around the world, we have a roller furler on the foresail.
Furlers make sail adjusts quicker and easier. It is also far safer to furl from the cockpit than to have to go up on the bow to change sails in challenging conditions!
Our mainsail is attached to the boom and housed in a sail bag held up by lazy jacks. Also known as a “stack pack”. Our main runs on a track on ball bearings up the mast and I personally love how easy it is to raise the main but more importantly how quickly it is to drop! You definitely do not want to be struggling in hectic winds with a sail that does not want to come down!!
We use the traveller to give us better control over boom and main sail. The traveller is something that is often underrated but its so useful in many conditions! Along with the traveller we also use the mainsheet to ease the main sail for different points of sail. Moving the boom gives us the right angle to the wind and optimal sail shape.

Thanks for watching!
Much love,
Captain Robin, Charlotte, sailor girl Moya and Midnight, our sailing cat!
