Sailors go WILD in MKHUZE GAME RESERVE! Needing some serious African bush time, and hoping to see lion and elephant, we head to Mkhuze Game Reserve for a few nights. Together with Charlotte’s parents and their friend, we stay at Mantuma Rest Camp.
A “Big 5” game reserve, Mkhuze is a typical bushveld protected area and part of the Isimangaliso Wetland Park in northern Zululand.
We spend our days driving around in an old Land Rover trying to spot wildlife in the bush. At Insumo Pans, we hear hippo grunting in the shallows and African Fish Eagles calling overhead.
The reserve is renowned for its amazing birdlife with 420 recorded bird species. Bird lovers can spend hours just sitting in the hides watching these beauties flit about.
We have a good giggle at a Blue Wildebeest having a sand bath and love seeing the baby Zebra and Nyala.
Charlotte cooks up a delicious beef curry to celebrate her fathers birthday and we are on the continuous look out for the ever elusive African Elephant!
