Where on Earth Have We Sailed To Now? Series 4 Episode 99 – Sailing to Medana Bay, Lombok
The Dreamtime Sail crew have ventured from a beautiful anchorage in the Zeba region of Indonesia to explore breathtaking locations. Their sailing journey leads them to Medana Bay on Lombok Island where they plan to base themselves for a while.
Throughout their adventure, the crew visits an amazing wildlife park that houses rescued Indonesian animals. They are invited to get up close and personal with these family members, including seeing black monkeys, cassowaries, and a very friendly bird in a feeding experience. It is an extraordinary encounter and an unmissable stop for any traveler coming to Lombok.
During their stay at Medana Bay Marina, the crew manages boat chores and maintenance while enjoying their surroundings. They stock up on provisions by filling LPG bottles at the local marina, where Australian fittings are compatible and readily available. Diesel is also purchased from the marina in Jerry cans to refuel their generator.
In true Dreamtime Sail fashion, Rob and Karen take care of essential maintenance and chores aboard their vessel while sharing memorable wildlife encounters. From pink job day with food shopping and freezer cleaning to generator engine room tasks and washing clothes, no chore is left behind. Despite minimal wind for sailing at times, the couple makes the most of exploring the area.
Unforgettable Experience
The highlight of their stay in Medana Bay was undoubtedly a visit to a local wildlife park. A two-and-a-half-hour trek through the forest provided incredible sights and memories as they met several rescued Indonesian animals up close, including an elusive family of black monkeys.
Exploring beautiful islands, maintaining their boat, shopping for groceries, visiting animal sanctuaries, and creating memories – Dreamtime Sail encapsulates the adventurous spirit that continues to guide their journey through breathtaking Indonesia. From exploring remote corners to sharing experiences with unique wildlife encounters, it’s clear why this captivating nation is one of their favorites.

There’s two things we love about sailing to far flung destinations, unexpected, but pleasant surprises and wildlife encounters. In this episode of our cruising adventures onboard Our Dreamtime in Indonesia we experienced a multitude of both.
It all starts waking up to a total glass out at our unexpected gem of a tropical island anchorage off Sumbawa and then encountering a large pod of dolphins soon after setting sail for Lombok and our destination at Medana Bay Marina. We liked the set up here so much we changed our plans and stay, setting off to explore some of this amazing island. Dominated by the heights of the Mount Rinjani Volcano, we expected to find beauty amongst the rice terraces and jungle but what a bonus we got. Rare black monkeys in the trees, amazing birdlife and then a visit to the friendliest Wildlife Park we’ve found anywhere in the world. Here we got very up close and personal with Elephants, Hornbills, Black Cockatoos, Iguana, Hippopotamus, Cassowary, Orangutan and so much more.
