The Pandemic Cancels Our Sailing Season. Now what?
Last week we got the news that due to the Pandemic shutdowns the city of Kingston, which runs the marina that our sailboat is stored at is closed until at least Aug 31st and they will not be launching boats this season.
So, our sailing season is cancelled!! So, now what do we do? Does the channel die?

Us losing our sailing season is a small hardship compared to the many that have lost their jobs and are struggling to survive. Our heart goes out to you and we hope you all the very best and hope that you stay healthy and take this unprecedented time at home to spend time with your close family and loved ones. Make the best of the situation to pick up a new hobby or learn a new language or skill.
One day, things will all go back to normal and we can meet out there on the water, have a beverage or two together and say “we lived through the 2020 pandemic and are stronger because of it”.

Welcome to Cruising Off Duty. We are Craig and Janice. We love travelling and we love sailing, so we figure the best way to see the world is by sailboat. We presently have a 35' Beneteau Oceanis sloop that we sail out of Kingston, Ontario Canada, which is on Lake Ontario. We have a longer term plan, when we retire in a few years, to sell everything and buy a 40-50' Catamaran and circumnavigate the globe. Craig loves photography along with land based and drone videography and plans to document everything along our travels to share with the world through Youtube and other social media. For now, follow our channel as we show you the beauty of the Great Lakes and the 1000 Islands area of the St Lawrence River. You will also see the steps we take as start narrowing down the Catamaran we think will suit us best as we move closer to our goal of living full time on a sailboat and exploring the world. It should be a journey worth watching.
