This is an update video on the sailing voyage so far. Each time I arrive in a new harbor and I can find decent wifi, I will try and post a quick update video so the viewers learn about our progress and get a synopsis of what has happened and get a glimpse of what they will see in the full detailed episodes that will follow once I get home and have time edit the full videos.
As we sailed north from Cape Town South Africa we have been following an Antarctic current that keeps the water very cold. It is almost winter here so the winds are already cold but then you add that the wind is blowing over this very cold water and it has made for some of the coldest sailing conditions I have ever sailed in and I sail in CANADA !!! Along with the cold we are also dealing with thick fog almost day and night. Sometimes the fog is so thick that you can only see a boat length or 2 in any direction and many of the African fishing boats do not use AIS or run with lights so the only way we see them in the dark or in the deep fog is to see them on Radar, but you have to keep a sharp eye out because almost anything can come out of the fog and give you little time to veer off a collision course. You also have to consider that many fishing boats are dragging nets behind them so running over a net is also a risk.
Even though Walvis Bay in Namibia is very industrial and not anything I would consider a “Tourist Destination” there is still a lot of wildlife around our boat. I give you a sneak peek in this update video, of how we had 5 massive Pelicans land on our moving boat while we were moving at 6 knots and at the same time a huge seal launched itself out of the water and landed on our back sugar scoop. The seal tried to enter our back cockpit. Things like this you just have to see to believe.
Hopefully, you enjoy this short update video and look forward to the full episodes that will come along in the future. If so, show the channel some love by giving it a thumbs up, share the video with your social network and subscribe so you don’t miss any future episodes.
Next stop St Helena Island in the middle of the South Atlantic! Wish us fair winds and following seas. 🙂
Ciao for now, from Africa.
