Sailing Solo. What to consider when alone. Weather and wind rarely match forecast. Ep137

Since I work shift work and because I get way more vacation time than my wife, I tend to be on my boat alone, a lot. What I do differently when I know I am going to be out sailing alone.
#1) Be extra vigilant to check your engine and boat rigging over thoroughly before you leave the dock to try and make sure there will be no “Issues” when you are out there alone.
#2) Take safety seriously. Always wear your lifejacket. If you fall overboard, no one is coming back for you and even water that seems warmish will give you hypothermia if you stay in it too long.
#3) Sail conservatively. Reef your sail if you see a storm coming or there is any chance of big wind gusts. Also I find I may let my sail trim be a bit looser than what is probably optimum to get the mist speed because when you heel way over and put a lot of strain on your running rigging, you are taking a chance that something can snap, which may cause your mast to break or your boat may end up overpowered to the point you can not keep it on course and could run yourself aground.
#4) Don’t trust wind and weather forecasts. Often times, like in this episode, the forecast may be for light winds and it ends up being way windier than you were prepared for.

In this episode, I take you along with me as I go solo sailing for an overnight stay in an anchorage. I show you what I have to do to sail it solo and anchor it solo.

Hope you enjoy the episode. If so, please give the channel some love by clicking the like button and sharing the video link with others. Spread the word! 🙂
