Sailing Solo. Fighting the wind and current. Close Hauled all the way home. Ep138

In this episode of Cruising Off Duty, I am sailing solo back to my home port in Kingston. I will show you what it takes to sail solo when the direction you need to go is dead into the wind. This requires you to sail “close hauled” (as close as your boat will sail into the wind) and when you sail into the wind the “Apparent Wind” seem stronger and you tend to put a lot of stress on your boat and your boat heels way over to the side, which can make moving around to get things done difficult.

I will also show you how to get through tight spots where you need to “pinch the wind” by motor sailing. In this case, you will need to drop your headsail and motor with just your mainsail. This allows you to get sail even closer to the direction the wind is coming from but will allow your boat to go faster than by motoring alone.

Finally, I will show you how I dock my boat when I am alone when it is windy and the wind is trying to push your boat away from your dock.

Hope you enjoy the episode. If so, please give the channel some love by clicking the like button and sharing the video link with others. Spread the word! 🙂
