Renogy 220W Solar Briefcase Review: A Perfect Blend of Portability and Efficiency

Cruising Off Duty recently had the pleasure of reviewing the Renogy 220W Solar Briefcase, a portable solar panel solution designed for off-grid living. This briefcase boasts 220 watts of power and features that cater to both convenience and durability.

Introduction

Whether you’re living off the grid in a boat, cottage, or camper, having solar power to maintain everyday conveniences is crucial. The dilemma often arises between folding solar panels for easy transportation and glass panels that can remain outdoors 24/7.

The Solution: Renogy Solar Briefcase

Renogy’s answer to this dilemma is the Solar Briefcase, combining the best of both worlds. This innovative design allows users to fold and unfold effortlessly, making it perfect for various environments without compromising on performance.

Design and Portability

Weighing in at approximately 15 lbs, the Renogy Solar Briefcase is not too heavy to carry around but still carries the durability of a glass panel. With dimensions of 35.4 x 26.2 inches (unfolding size), it’s compact enough to store away yet offers ample space for its two 110W panels.

IP68 Waterproof Rating and Efficiency

The briefcase is rated IP68 with an ETFE coating, making it suitable to leave out in the rain or sun without worrying about deterioration. It boasts 22.7% module efficiency, a testament to its performance despite its portable nature.

Pros and Cons

– **Pros**:
– Portable yet durable with its aluminum alloy frame
– IP68 waterproof rating, making it suitable for all-weather conditions
– ETFE coating prevents haziness over time
– Comes with short cables that may hinder some setup configurations
– Kickstand angle is fixed at 40°, which may not always ensure optimal sunlight alignment

Performance and Setup

Setting up the Renogy Solar Briefcase involves unfolding it to its full size and extending the kickstand. It’s straightforward, especially for those familiar with solar panels. The MC4 connectors facilitate easy connection to compatible inverters or generators.

Conclusion

The Renogy 220W Solar Briefcase is an excellent investment for those seeking a portable and reliable solar solution. Its ability to be left outdoors without any fear of damage, coupled with its efficiency and compactness, makes it stand out in the market.

Final Thoughts

For off-grid enthusiasts, this product offers convenience without sacrificing quality. The briefcase is suitable for a variety of settings, from camping trips to everyday cottage living. Its versatility and performance make it a standout choice in portable solar panels.

Looking Forward

Cruising Off Duty encourages all off-grid enthusiasts to consider the Renogy Solar Briefcase for their power needs. Stay tuned for more reviews and adventures in Bowman’s Woods, where the potential of this solar solution has been put to the test.

The Renogy 220W folding solar panel, also referred to as a Solar Briefcase, is the perfect mobile solar solution. Folded up the 220W panel is fairly small and at 15lbs it is easy to carry with you if you are camping or going off the grid. It has all the attributes of glass panels as it is IP68 water protection, so you can set this up at your campsite and leave it there 24/7 even if there are some rain showers in the forecast. I am sure I will be using the 2 panels I have all the time at my off-grid homestead.
