Glad to have a sailboat when 3 Tornadoes hit Ottawa. First Mavic 2 flight off boat, almost crashes.

This is our final sailing episode of the 2018 sailing season. In this episode a lot of unique things happened:

1) We left home during, what we thought was just a heavy rainstorm, only to get to our boat in Kingston to find that 3 Tornadoes had touched down in Ottawa (1 very close to our house) and had done substantial damage and caused power outages for days. This was one time that we were glad to have a sailboat that we could live on if need be. When you own a sailboat you learn to live “Off The Grid” and being self-sufficient by having Solar Power, Big Battery Banks and Inverters to run everything. Although our house was not adversely affected (other than some missing shingles) we were glad to have our boat as a safety net if we did need to find somewhere to live. We were also glad to have a 2Kw generator on our boat that we could bring home to allow us to keep our food from going bad. It was a wake-up call to many to have sufficient dry food and resources to last an extended power outage.

2) This was the weekend that I tried flying my new drone (Mavic 2 Pro) off the boat and, let’s just say the drone did not respond well to flying off a boat and I almost lost it into the St Lawrence River.

3) Something we had never seen before, there was a Cruise Ship anchored in the middle of the river and sending groups of people by tender into Kingston. The really big freighters do not pass in front of Kingston but on the other side of Wolfe Island so having such a big boat anchored in front of Kingston was a first for us.
