Ep84 Sailing Across Lake Ontario. Pt1. Weird weather!
September 20, 2017 by Cruising Off Duty | Language: EN Play Time: 00:11:55 | SAILING YOUTUBERS

Ep84. In this episode we head out from Oswego NY to cross Lake Ontario to head back toward our home base near Kingston Ontario. One thing we have learned about sailing out in Lake Ontario is how strange unforecasted weather happens. It could be calling for clear and calm calm conditions and all of a sudden the wind can go from 10 knots to 30 knots without warning and you could be caught in an absolute downpour. In this episode we are sailing along in blue skies with clear visibility and then are suddenly surrounded, in the afternoon, by dense fog. Fog in the morning is not that usual, but to have it go from clear to dense fog in the afternoon was something we had never seen before. When we saw the walls of mist closing in, we were sure we were going to get caught in heavy rain. And we know, from past experience, that rain on Lake Ontario can come with unexpected high winds. So we were on full alert.
We end this episode at the halfway point of the crossing, at Duck Island (Snake Island). Next episode continues on to Kingston Ontario. We give you a detailed look at Kingston and show you all the things that make us love having this great city on the water only 1.5 hrs from where we moor our boat. So far, it is our favorite town or city we have visited by boat.
Hopefully you enjoy this episode,
Craig and Janice
