Because I work shift work and because I get way more vacation time than my wife, I tend to be on my boat alone, a lot. But I never feel lonely. In this episode of Cruising Off Duty, I will show you how I spend so much time 2 hrs from home on my boat, but never feel lonely. No, it is not because I hate people and like being a hermit. 😜 Far from it.
Boats, especially sailboats, always have a long list of things that need to be fixed or worked on. Even if the weather forecast is calling for rain, go to your boat anyway. You would be surprised what you can get accomplished, even when stuck inside.
In this episode, my Alder Barbor Fridge just stops working and I diagnose it and fix it. Boats always need attention and if you only come to your boat when the weather is perfect, you will find that you barely use your boat, the summer will fly by, and you will wonder why you even bothered having a boat since it gets used so rarely. Plus, your “Boat Tasks” will never get done on sunny beautiful days. Let’s be honest !!
What better time to knock off a few “Boat Projects” off your list than a rain day when you would probably just sit home and do nothing of consequence if you didn’t go to your boat.

Cruising Off Duty
Welcome to Cruising Off Duty. We are Craig and Janice. We love travelling and we love sailing, so we figure the best way to see the world is by sailboat. We presently have a 35' Beneteau Oceanis sloop that we sail out of Kingston, Ontario Canada, which is on Lake Ontario. We have a longer term plan, when we retire in a few years, to sell everything and buy a 40-50' Catamaran and circumnavigate the globe. Craig loves photography along with land based and drone videography and plans to document everything along our travels to share with the world through Youtube and other social media. For now, follow our channel as we show you the beauty of the Great Lakes and the 1000 Islands area of the St Lawrence River. You will also see the steps we take as start narrowing down the Catamaran we think will suit us best as we move closer to our goal of living full time on a sailboat and exploring the world. It should be a journey worth watching.
