Summer 2024 – Video 487
Welcome back to Cruising Lealea, as we bring you a heartwarming tale of horse sitting on an idyllic island. Join us in this mesmerizing episode where we witness the beautiful connection between humans and horses amidst breathtaking views.
A Horse Sitting Adventure Like No Other
Our latest venture took us to a stunning island where we had the opportunity to horse sit and experience life in this small community. As part of our responsibilities, we cared for elderly horses with arthritic swollen knees, providing them comfort and companionship.
From our perch in the living room, we had a stunning view overlooking the barn and Paddock Corral. Across the way, Cooper Island stood proud, adding to the serene atmosphere of the island.
The Daily Routine and Challenges
Every morning at about 6 a.m., we would witness the beauty of Wranglers at low tide, while Snuffy and his buddies grazed in their spacious corals. However, taking care of their swollen knees, especially considering the arthritis, presented its own set of challenges.
As we sat with Snuffy, one of the horses with a particularly bad case of arthritis in his swollen knee joint, we realized just how vital our care was for these beloved creatures. Their daily comfort became our top priority.
The Wonderful Owners and Their Fishing Trip
The island’s owners, John and Kirsten Dupri, are commercial fishing folks who occasionally go crabbing. They trust Laura, one of the few skilled individuals in caring for horses on the island. For years, we have been invited to horse sit and take care of their animals when they go out to sea.
Our Island Family
As we embarked on this incredible journey, our furry friends became part of our family. Each one had their unique personality, from the majestic Charlie Don’t Care to the gentle Bully.
Our days were filled with moments like the one when we captured the breathtaking view from our perch, a testament to the beauty and tranquility of island life.
So here’s to all the adventures out there waiting for us – may they bring as much joy and love as this one did. Until next time, happy sailing!
