Cruising Lealea: From the Boat

Welcome back cruising Lealea fans! Join us as we dive into the realities of boat maintenance and life after extended time living aboard.

Adjusting to Life Ashore After Cruising

After 34 years sailing and living on their vessel, Laura and her partner face the challenges of adapting to life in a house while ensuring their beloved boat is well taken care of.

The Boat Neglect and Necessary Repairs

With 9 months of living ashore, the couple has let their sailing vessel fall into a state of neglect. From damaged tarps that need replacing to inspecting the bottom, there’s much work ahead for this dedicated duo.

As Laura explains:

Laura says, “The ones that are on here now have been on there for 2 years and they need to be replaced before winter comes.” Additionally, “During the last few months, electricity issues left the boat with a damp interior that needs thorough cleaning.”

The Plans for a Full Boat Refit

Although time is short before winter arrives, Laura and her partner have a vision for their boat’s future. They plan to tackle a full refit next summer with goals of painting the outside and cleaning up the interior.

In addition:

Laura mentions, “I hope that we will get the boat out of the water before winter hits and get the bottom painted.” Furthermore, she says, “A new coat of anti-fouling paint, Trinidad red, is on our list.”

The Urgent Need for Tarp Replacement

While seeking solutions to their neglected boat needs, Laura shares a particular challenge – finding replacement tarps of the correct size. The local stores do not carry them in stock.

This requires some creative problem-solving or talking to store managers about inventory flow issues concerning these vital boat supplies.

The Exciting Plans for the Future

As Laura tackles the necessary chores and maintenance tasks, she’s also looking ahead to exciting projects and adventures. Fans of cruising Lealea are encouraged to share, like, subscribe, and stay tuned for more content on the boat, Southeast Alaska, and their beloved pet center.

Time To Get Working on the Boat

With a newfound motivation, Laura is determined to tackle all her boat projects head-on. She has her work cut out for her but knows that every step brings her closer to sailing once more and exploring new horizons.
