Stormy weather to the Azores - Sailing Greatcircle (ep.174)
As soon as we decide to head straight to Horta the forecast changes and we get a bit more waves and wind in our direction than we bargained for.
Especially during night time when you end up in conditions you weren’t in before (pretty high waves coming from directly abeam) this feels kind of spooky, when it gets light it all looks a lot better already.
I expect that the boat was a lot less worried than I was.
And yes I know, it’s impossible to see how high the waves are on video. According to the US weather organization they were almost twice as high as we experienced in our F10 to Ibiza episode even though the wind was a lot less. We didn’t see anything over 42 knots where we sailed, the really strong winds were at least 100 miles north of us at all times.
