Greatcircle is ready to go again and we're glad to leave the marina and head for the lagoon. We have a couple of great sailing days. First to one of the small islands in the middle of the reefs (Ilot Mato) and after that via Prony to Ile des Pins.
We have to leave Greatcircle as the power will be cut during upgrade of the davits and the mast support. After a couple of days in a hotel we are super happy to be sailing on Rob and Hanneke's Ningyo for a couple of days.
After our 2 night stop at Norfolk we continue towards Nouméa in New Caledonia, and again we're very lucky with the winds we're getting. Your fair winds wishes must have helped.
Maybe extend those wishes for other GLYWO boats next time as Saga, Vitia and ...
Our first ocean crossing in the 2nd half of the GLYWO around the world rally will be from New Zealand to New Caledonia. Because of an expected pause in the wind we see an opportunity to make an in between stop on Norfolk Island, Australia.

After 4 months in Europe, a wedding and a grandchild in the making we're delighted to be back on board. Let's get ready for to sail from down under New Zealand back to the Med.
In this video we’ve been testing wireless intercoms and microphones of :

After exploring the Bay of Islands a bit more we sail Greatcircle from Opua to Whangarei where she will stay as we will travel to Europe for a couple of months.
After being checked in into New Zealand there’s time to explore the bay. But first it’s time for a reunion with Glennis, who took great care of us last time we were in NZ.
Scary moments as Greatcircle is hauled out in a very narrow slipway on a cart with a couple of wooden blocks. But it's the only place in Fiji where you can haul out a cat and they therefore have lots of experience doing this. Having 2 rudders again towards...
On our way to be hauled out for repairs in Vuda Point marina we cruise around the Mamanuca islands, visit the islands where Cast Away was recorded and meet the other rally boats again in Musket Cove
It's going to take a couple of weeks to send the new rudder and the parts for the steering over from France so we have time to slowly hop towards Vuda Point marina where the boat will be lifted out for the repairs.
Still a bit shaky we sail towards the ma...
We sail south from Matagi towards the fantastic Bay of Islands, the Fijian one that is, and sail around Vanua Balavu and visit the villages of Lomaloma and Susui.
We chill a bit in Savusavu before we find a reasonable weather window to start heading for the Lau group, a group of remote islands on the east side of Fiji.
After a couple of days in Wallis it was time to head for Fiji. Copra Shed Marina in Savusavu is about 370 miles away from Wallis and we plan to get there in the evening of the second day so we have to spend only one night out there on the ocean. We will sp...
We sail together with Inky from Samoa to Wallis, part of the French oversees territory. An island with just a handful of tourists every year. It looks like we're the number 8, 9 and 10 boat to check in at customs and immigration in 2022.
After 3 years Samoa was opening up again and will try to start up tourism again. Of course this has had an impact on live on the island but everybody is still extremely friendly and well fed ....
We manage to find a window to leave through the only pass of Maupiti and head for Samoa, 1200 miles to the northeast. The sea state is not ideal with 3m+ waves but more importantly crossed swells. Just the two of us on board.
We stayed a week in Bora Bora before sailing to Maupiti, only 30 miles further west.
You can check in every time in this beautiful atol, but you can never leave ….,
Mark returns to Tahiti to bring the boat back in the water and sail Greatcircle to Huahine where the captain joins a couple of weeks later.
