SSL 358 ~ Happy Hour HURRICANE, in Rio Dulce, GUATEMALA!
May 11, 2019 by Captain Rick Moore | Language: EN Play Time: 00:14:08 | SAILING YOUTUBERS

If you are new to sailing/cruising or plan to be soon, the most important lesson you can take from our experience is to buy the biggest and best anchor you can afford, and learn how to secure it WELL!
The squall in this video was over 60kts with a 180 degree wind reversal… not fun! When I chose my Mantus 105lb anchor from Mantus Marine it was because it had the best tested track record for resetting itself in extreme conditions due to the shape and distribution of weight at the tip of the anchor… todays situation affirmed in my mind that this was a good decision.
You will all have to make decisions that your boat and/or lives may depend on, so make sure and base them on the best and most recent information available.

Safe sailing everyone.
Cheers,
Captain Rick
