SSL 136 ~ Next Mission ~ RESCUE AT SEA!
During a great day of ocean sailing on route to Grenada, the waves starting building to 3-4mtrs and began funnelling around directly behind us. Before we could extend our main towing line to compensate, the waves had already pushed the dinghy almost right up into the back of the boat.. as the dinghy pulled backwards on the next wave the line tightened past its stress limits and snapped… we had our secondary dock line attached but it is not meant for towing and as you can see it only tolerated a few minutes before it let go and our dinghy was left adrift on the ocean in big following waves. The resulting ‘man overboard’ drill ensued, and with a well executed team effort we got the dinghy reattached and back underway for Grenada!
Disclaimer: No Dinghies or Russians were lost at sea during this exercise. 🙂
