This is a cotton plant. But for Ukrainians, it became a symbol of resistance and irony. 💥
When russia invaded Ukraine, they didn’t just try to conquer land — they tried to control the truth.
In early 2022, russian state media banned the word “explosion.”
Instead, they used the word “khlopok” (хлопок) — a strange choice.
Here’s why it's so absurd:
In Russian, khlopok means both:
“a clap” (like clapping your hands) — a soft, harmless sound
“cotton” — the plant used for fabric
Russian propaganda wanted to make serious explosions sound like a minor noise — just a little clap.
But Ukrainians flipped the script. They started calling explosions “bavovna” — the Ukrainian word for cotton.
Now “bavovna” means:
🔥 An explosion
😂 A meme
🇺🇦 And a jab at russian censorship
So when you see this cotton bush, remember — this is what truth wrapped in irony looks like.
