Ever wondered what it would be like to live in the Keys? How about living in a place like the Dry Tortugas, a paradise only accessible by boat and sea plane, with white sand beaches, pristine clear water teaming with sea-life, and neighboring islands with endless options for exploring? The fact that we get to live in the most random locations is one of the coolest parts of cruising.
But when you live on anchor you’re subject to whatever the weather throws at you and that means we get to experience beautiful days and nasty ones. In this episode, we hunker down and live through a four day blow. Our island becomes a different place during the storm and its incredible to witness the change. We watch the waves crash onto the moat that lines massive Fort Jefferson and pass the time doing boat projects and editing.
After the storm finally passes the sun comes out and the wind retreats. It’s back to the regular program which includes a daily chill at ‘our beach’ with friends Brian, Kazza and Nugget. We witness a truly incredible sunset and the next day decide to explore a nearby island, Loggerhead Cay, which is only accessible by boat. We discover an underwater tropical paradise with spectacular coral and sea life. Not to mention the long, private white sand beach and perfectly clear turquoise water. This is why we endure the storms folks, to be able to call THIS place our own backyard for awhile 🙂
