The Realities of Crossing the Pacific Ocean

In episode 229 of Calico Skies Sailing, hosts CJ, Bill, and Grace reflect on their incredible journey across the Pacific Ocean. As they approach the equator, only 1,000 miles remain, making them 2/3 done with this epic voyage.

They’re grateful to have exited the doldrums but continue dealing with unfortunate illness and radar issues. While the support of their patrons has been immense, CJ expresses gratitude for a community that genuinely cares about their adventure.

Mental Resilience and Celebrating Milestones

Throughout the passage, there have been difficult moments both physically and mentally. CJ admits to struggling with maintaining their usual level of productivity while staying hydrated and addressing basic needs in constant motion.

In spite of challenges, they emphasize the importance of staying in the present moment, as this passage has provided beautiful yet unexpectedly tough experiences. A crucial milestone occurs as they finally cross the equator after a previous failed attempt last year.

Navigating Southward with Champagne Sailing

The final 800 miles are navigated southward with delightful sea conditions, perfect for champagne sailing. While enjoying the first sunrise in the southern hemisphere, they raise a toast to the completion of such an arduous task.

In this journey’s reflections, CJ mentions that crossing an ocean hasn’t been done since 2018, highlighting how momentous this endeavor is. Though not thriving up to their usual documenting standards due to unexpected mental and physical hardships, they’re determined to appreciate the remaining days.

Countdown and Approaching Landfall

The countdown continues with 920 miles left until landfall. Despite illnesses, unforeseen issues, and personal struggles, they remain hopeful for a triumphant arrival after five challenging weeks on the Pacific.

Grace expresses that this journey tests one’s mental toughness in every aspect of boat life. The crew appreciates their community’s unwavering support and camaraderie throughout these transformative experiences. Their resilience is a testament to perseverance amidst adversity as they move forward with determination towards an unforgettable landfall.

Join the Voyage

The upcoming episodes will feature more revelations, including heavy seas and surprises during their final days. As they approach land with anticipation, the series’ memorable conclusion promises a rewarding end to an incredible journey across the Pacific.
