One thing we get asked ALL the time is, ‘What are your plans?’, sometimes less pointedly in the following types of ways: ‘When are you leaving?’ ‘How long will you be there?’ ‘What will you do at XYZ spot?’ ‘Can I come visit next week? next month? next year??’
Because it feels insincere to repeat ‘idk’ over and over we usually just answer by discussing options we’ve considered and making sure to emphasize that things could change. One thing I’ve come to realize is that unless you live this life full time it’s just a tough concept to truly understand. How could we really have NO plans at all?
The truth is we do make plans we just don’t intend to keep them most of the time. We do it because it’s human nature and because it gives us structure (and also because then we have something to talk about with non cruisers) but we’ve learned not to expect most of them to materialize.
Interestingly, when you’ve opened up your cruising agenda to ‘whenever we feel like stopping’ or ‘whenever something stops us’ it’s easier not to worry about moving quickly or accomplishing bucket list items. If it’s not this year, then maybe it will be next year and if not next year maybe on the next circumnavigation 🤷🏼♀️.
