Equator Crossing Pacific: A Spectacular Celebration and Journey Reflections

In an epic ocean sailing adventure, the crew of Calico Skies Sailing successfully crossed the equator in the Pacific Ocean. Despite being a little late to their celebration due to the 4 AM crossing, they commemorated this remarkable milestone with a bottle of bubbly and some reflections on their incredible year.

Their Equator Crossing journey has been marked by an unexpected but relatively benign passage. However, for the past day or so, they’ve encountered a very strong counter current, causing them to travel quite slowly while heading south instead of southwest. This strong current is now starting to switch and, as it does, will no longer be against their vessel.

Looking ahead, over the next day, the currents are set to favor them with about one or two knots of speed. Furthermore, once they enter a more genuine equatorial current, they can expect to make great speeds, potentially averaging around six knots during their journey.

The crew remains optimistic, as they are now less than a full week away from land and still on course for an arrival late Saturday night or early Sunday morning. Throughout this passage, they’ve maintained close communication with their followers, whom they hold in high regard.
