Are We Ready to Transit a Dangerous Pirate Coast in the Caribbean (Calico Skies Sailing, Ep 108)

Our voyage from Mexico to Panama provides many challenges; foul currents, head winds, no fuel availability due to Covid and the one that scares us the most PIRATES. This is our first time in nearly 30,000 miles of sailing where we have had to pass through a know coast with Piracy. How would you prepare? Leave a comment below and let us know!

Our first line of defense was thoroughly research pre-departure. We walk through the various resources available to the cruising sailor to help negotiate a passage such as this one. Sometimes the best offense is a good defense, and we opted to not be seen, shutting off our AIS transceiver as well and nav lights/radar reflector. Wish us luck!
