Episode Recap: Is this the BEST Sail you can add to a Sailboat!?!
In today’s episode, we dive deep into our most exciting upgrade yet – a custom-made lightwind sail that will become our secret weapon during our journey through Polynesia. Our tale begins in Banderas Bay, where Ben and Ally set out to improve their sailboat by adding this amazing new sail, which can be flown from 45° all the way to 180 in winds as low as 6 knots to as high as 17 apparent wind. Background & Planning
To achieve this impressive upgrade, Ben and Ally reach out to their friends at Precision Sales. With Bill’s help, they dream up a similar sail that would become their secret weapon. After discussing the dimensions and measurements of their boat, they send all the necessary information to Precision Sales so that they can start working on it.The Arrival
The day finally arrives when the long-awaited sail is brought into their marina. As soon as it’s out of the package, everyone notices its stunning Navy color and high-quality materials.Installation Begins
Ben and Ally start preparing for installation by adding a Seldon bow sprit to their boat. This addition helps support the new sail, which is essential for their upcoming crossing. With help from friends like Garrett, they manage to get everything set up, making it all possible within only 12 hours before checking out of Mexico.Impressive Results
In the end, their hard work pays off and they successfully add this incredible lightwind sail to their boat. Now they feel even more prepared and excited for their epic journey through Polynesia.<hr class=Inspired by boat buddies @CalicoSkiesSailing, Ben and Alie decide to fit out their boat with a Selden bow sprit and a light wind "Code D" (gennaker style sail with more upwind capability) on a rolling furler! Special thanks to @SaltandTar for putting in another shift on Kiana as we finish our preparations to cross the Pacific Ocean from Mexico to French Polynesia. Thanks to @PrecisionSailLoftVictoria for the beautiful new Big Blue! We have bonus content on Patreon where we do a review of our new installation after putting some miles on it.
