This week on Boating Journey, Scott and Alli take you along on their long weekend celebrating Independence Day with family and friends back in the Pacific Northwest. It’s been quite a few years since they’ve been up to Cino Island for the Fourth of July celebration due to COVID, so there are lots of activities that they’re super excited about.
With perfect weather at 80 degrees, they plan on taking their boat out for crabbing, cornhole, beer pong tournaments, watching fireworks by the fire pit, and simply enjoying all the beauty the Pacific Northwest has to offer. They are ready to relax with family, have a great time, and enjoy long-overdue quality moments together.
Their journey began on Seattle, where they headed up I5 to Cino Island beach. The original cabin built by Alli’s uncle and father is now a beautiful home right on the beach – what better place to celebrate Independence Day!
From boat parades featuring decked-out boats cruising along the beach to competitive beer pong tournaments, there are plenty of activities that keep everyone entertained.
The annual 4th of July boat parade was one highlight they did not miss. Boats from up and down the beach would all get decked out for the day, creating a picturesque scene along Cino Island’s coastline.
Competitions like the Beer Pong Tournament were fiercely contested among the residents with 25 teams entering! The top three teams took home prizes as winners rejoiced in their hard-fought victories. Among them were Scott and Alli who managed to come second one year!
Afterwards, it was time to focus on the crab pots with high hopes for a fruitful catch. Their patience paid off as they pulled in some large crabs, making their day even better.
No visit would be complete without digging into freshly caught crabs at ‘Crabfest.’ But first, everyone indulged in some mouth-watering burgers on the grill before settling in for a mesmerizing display of fireworks lighting up the night sky.
For Scott and Alli, despite the less-than-stellar fruit and cheese platter and their long flight, they still had a great time. They realized that trips to the Pacific Northwest were made much easier compared to their five-day drive from Seattle to Fort Lauderdale.
This 4th of July celebration proved yet again that sometimes it’s not about the destination but rather the quality time spent with loved ones and cherished memories that truly matter most.

In episode 243 Scott and I head back to Seattle to celebrate the July 4th weekend with my family at Tyee Beach on Camano Island on Port Susan Bay. The weather was gorgeous and we spent 2 days beach combing, beer pong, crabbing and enjoying the fireworks. We went crabbing on my nephew's Boston Whaler 170 Montauk which is such a great boat for the Pacific Northwest.
The best time to visit the PNW is summer time when all of the mountains are out and the skies are blue. Tune in next week for part 2 and watch Scott do the hot sauce challenge, enjoy fresh PNW oysters and spend our last days enjoying the solitude of the beach.
