In this episode of BoatFools Sailing, Green Mountain Josh returns for his first full boat tour in quite some time as we step aboard Topaz, a beautifully maintained 1984 Norseman 447—one of legendary designer Robert Perry's most respected offshore cruising sailboats.
Built by Ta Shing in Taiwan, the Norseman 447 has earned a reputation as a serious bluewater passagemaker. With her solid hand-laid fiberglass construction, encapsulated ballast, skeg-hung rudder, cutter rig, and comfortable center cockpit layout, it's easy to see why these boats continue to be sought after by experienced cruisers more than 40 years after they were built.
Green Mountain Josh and I absolutely loved touring this boat, and after stepping aboard, you'll understand why so many offshore sailors continue to speak so highly of the Norseman 447.
