A GREAT Budget Liveaboard! The Pearson 365 Ketch $28k | FULL TOUR
Looking for a great budget liveaboard sailboat? The classic 1979 Pearson 365 Ketch, designed by the legendary Bill Shaw, might be exactly what you’ve been searching for. Canadian Ken and I return to Stockton Harbor, Maine (where we toured that Island Packet 38 sailboat last fall — the one our friend ended up buying!) to climb aboard this roomy, well-equipped cruiser that’s ready to move aboard and sail away.
This Pearson 365 has been a summer home since 2018, and you can see why. She’s got serious liveaboard gear:
⚓ 500 watts of solar power + 400 watt AirX wind generator
⚓ Lewmar windlass with 44 lb anchor & 200 ft of chain (plus a 35 lb CQR backup)
⚓ Davits for a dinghy (dinghy available separately)
⚓ Raymarine autopilot + Garmin 12” chartplotter with AIS
⚓ EPIRB beacon for safety offshore
⚓ 3-burner propane stove, shower stall, and room to sleep 5
⚓ 40 hp Westerbeke diesel with 50 gallons of fuel + 150 gallons of water
⚓ New bowsprit (starboard), new paint job (2023), sails in good condition
⚓ Survey completed in 2023 — available to interested buyers
She’s currently in the water and on her mooring (available through mid-October 2025) — meaning you can literally step aboard, drop the lines, and head out.
What surprised us most? The space — both in the cockpit and down below. For a “budget cruiser,” the Pearson 365 feels like a much bigger boat. No wonder so many sailors choose them as affordable liveaboards and bluewater cruisers.
