Ep 50 – Picking the Right Weather is EVERYTHING – Season 5 Finale
In this final episode of season 5, Barefoot Travels are discussing how to pick the right weather for their crossing in the Bahamas.
Living on a boat comes with its fair share of challenges, especially when it comes to picking the right time to cross during weather conditions. As Matt and Lisa make plans to move from one location to another, they realize that patience is key.
Sailing Across: Weather & Anchorage
In the beginning of this episode, Barefoot Travels mention a crazy storm that had just passed and the reason for entering into the location they were in. It’s all about ‘Turn Up The Tide’ with not too much wind, leading to doing some ‘little pirouettes.’ They plan to move on to Albert town which isn’t very far – approximately 6 miles away. Matt says “I am a be man,” attributing lyrics from a song, continuing to emphasize his adventurous spirit and resilience.
Leaving for Jamaica Bay
This location definitely served its purpose, but Matt is looking forward to a change of scenery. The decision to leave and head towards Jamaica bay was based on multiple factors – close to the shore and comfortable weather conditions. They waited a day more than planned due to unfavorable conditions.
Navigating through Challenges
Despite facing several challenges on this journey – including difficult anchorages, rocky bottoms, and unexpected currents – the Barefoot Travels crew remained resilient. They used patience and a wait-and-watch approach while also making calculated decisions based on their safety and comfort.
Learning Along The Way
Throughout this episode, Matt and Lisa share various learnings from their experiences. For instance, understanding the significance of waiting for the right weather window before crossing or choosing to enter and exit specific locations only at dead low tide or during high tides.
Final Thoughts
In the end, Barefoot Travels emphasizes how waiting for favorable conditions not only enhances safety but also contributes to a better sailing experience. With their adventurous spirit intact and patience as their guiding factor, Matt & Lisa navigate through each challenge while enjoying what they truly love – being out at sea on their boat.
Season Finale & Future Plans
Barefoot Travels concludes this season by mentioning a well-deserved month-long break to recharge before planning for future videos and deciding on the direction of their channel. So, stay tuned for Season 6, as they continue exploring the vast blue waters!
