BOAT SUNK IN REMOTE INDONESIA!

Striding and his best mate Az are back together, combining forces to film their adventures through remote Indonesia on a massive 53ft live-aboard pirate ship. They’re in for a wild ride filled with big fish, epic waves, and an unforgettable encounter that will test their courage and resourcefulness.

Big Fish and Sunsets

The journey begins with a few days of travel to reach the pristine waters of Northern Sumatra. Strider and Az waste no time getting settled in and preparing their gear. With a crew eager to fill the boat with fish, they head out for a midnight snapper session, enjoying a delicious meal prepared by the chef as the sun sets.

Spearfishing Adventure

The next day starts early with the crew heading offshore to a spot that looks promising on the charts. With light winds and strong currents, they use spearfishing techniques that involve teamwork, finding the right pressure points, attracting bait, and working together to drop for fish. The ocean is a washing machine, but they persist and manage to catch a beautiful Wahoo.

Calming Coves and Hidden Shipwrecks

After a few long steams in calm conditions, the crew pulls into a small bay that looks like a postcard. Here they find a perfect wave for a bit of surfing to brush up on their skills. They also explore a nearby shipwreck using masks and snorkels, hoping to find hidden treasures.

Limestone Caves and Pirate Lore

The exploration continues with a visit to unique limestone caves with a bit of a pirates’ ladder leading up the side. They find signs of an old camp, including spiny con shells, an old machete, and a dark passage that leads deep into the rock face. The cave is rumored to have been used by people who collected swallows’ nests for use in eastern medicine.

Underwater Paradise and Unexpected Danger

As they cruise down the coast, the crew notices a spot on the chart that rises from 1000 meters to 20 meters. Hoping to find big fish, they jump in a tender to check it out. The water is significantly cleaner than previous dives, and they are enjoying the crystal-clear visibility. Unfortunately, their dive is cut short when the captain speeds over with a serious look on his face. The boat is taking on water!

A Race Against Time

Fran and Strider jump in to try and help, but the captain needs to speed off to try and drain the water out the back. Az is left drifting alone as the boat’s BGE pump struggles to keep up. The situation is dire, and the boat begins to sink rapidly.

Forced to Swim for Survival

With no other choice, Strader decides to swim towards a nearby island to avoid being caught in the current. Fortunately, the area has been fished out for sharks, reducing the danger of a predator attack. The large boat continues to circle, unable to slow down for fear of sinking completely.

Patching Up and Pressing On

The next morning, the crew launches a mammoth effort to raise the tender, patch the hole, and get it back into the water. Despite losing a significant amount of gear, they decide to make one final dive to recover anything salvageable. Miraculously, they find their chum hats!

Back in Action and New Encounters

With the tender operational again, the crew sets off to explore further. They check out a fad (floating object) in the middle of nowhere, hoping to find Wahoo, triple tail, or Mahi Mahi. While they don’t catch any fish here, they continue their journey and soon encounter a school of fish flashing around on the surface.

Yellowfin Tuna Surprise

The crew lands a beautiful yellowfin tuna, a perfect catch to feed everyone for a few days. They learn that the best way to prepare this fish is to eat it raw.

Surfing Bucket List

The grand finale of their adventure arrives as they reach what is considered to be one of the best surfing locations on Earth. With dreams of achieving a legendary surfing feat – getting barreled inside a hollowed-out wave face – Strider and Az put their skills to the test.
