Join Allison & James as they embark on an exciting journey to transform their 30ft sailboat, Inta, into a fully functional solar-powered vessel. With dreams of living off-grid full-time in Northern Canada, this couple is determined to revolutionize their cruising experience by harnessing the power of the sun.
The Inta was initially a daunting project for this adventurous couple. Last year, they rewired every inch of their beloved sailboat, overcoming 45 years of previous user modifications and an absolute tangled mess of wires. Despite completing the rewiring hastily, Allison & James were dedicated to building upon their project with state-of-the-art off-grid solar technology.
In partnership with Jeff from Barefoot Renewables, the couple was more than ready to bring their sailboat into the 21st century. With a wealth of knowledge spanning eight years in solar power solutions, Jeff’s expertise was invaluable in designing and implementing an efficient solar system tailored for Inta.
After much planning, the day had finally arrived to install three 100-watt solar panels along with Victron charge controllers and a lithium battery. These essential components combined would create a seamless off-grid solar power system, transforming Inta into a modern marvel.
With the solar panels now installed, Allison and James could not contain their excitement. Not only did they surpass their expectations with nearly 14 amps of power being generated from just two panels but also recognized the profound impact this would have on their cruising experience.
Determined to help support societies and individuals doing good, Allison and James recognized the potential for positive change through harnessing solar power. From charging laptops, cameras, and capturing endless footage of their adventurous escapades to powering vital projects like Orca Lab or supporting initiatives against fish farm removal – a well-charged battery can make all the difference.
With an unwavering dedication to sustainability and adventure, Allison & James have not only transformed their sailboat into a self-sufficient solar-powered vessel but also set forth on creating ripples of positive change within their community and beyond.
The possibilities are endless when you combine your passions with innovative solar technology. By taking the leap and supporting one another’s endeavors, remarkable transformations like Allison & James’ sailboat can inspire us all to push boundaries while nurturing our shared planet.
