Sailboat Tour: Formosa 51' (my parent's boat!)

If I turn into my parents, I’d be okay with that!;)
I asked my parents to show me around their boat, a Formosa 51′, which they reluctantly stepped in front of the camera for. Even I learned some neat upgrade ideas!

1973 Formosa 51′
My parents bought Solskin 15 years ago. She was rotten, had oysters growing in her salt water pump, mushrooms growing in the woodwork, and was pretty much sinking. They spent 3 years restoring her and my family has since cruised to Mexico, circumnavigated Vancouver Island a few times, and my parents have since taken her to Haida Gwaii, Great Bear Rainforest, and have plans to take her to Alaska.
My parents are professionals and have lived aboard for 2 years now. Ask questions about the boat and I’ll force my parents to answer!

Tyler and Kayleen left Campbell River, BC summer 2022 on their 1981 Tartan 42’ after spending two years preparing for this journey! Tyler is a bilateral below knee amputee, adapting to the sailing lifestyle with humility. He is a gold medalist in the Beijing 2022 Snowboard Cross. Kayleen grew up cruising with her parents and comes from a family of Mariners. Although she comes from a marketing background, she now is a commercial scuba diver and writes sailing articles on the side.
