The purpose of this video is to highlight the difficulty’s and rarity of a woman doing all the hardest boat projects, all while living in a boatyard. And to encourage more women to follow in Nicole’s independent can do attitude. To cast off the dock lines and set sail all on their own.
Several times throughout this video I say that Nicole is the only woman I’ve seen in real life “Doing all the hardest projects by herself in a boatyard”. This is not meant to be a jab at anyone, or to say that women can’t or haven’t ever done this. It is simply a honest statement from what I’ve seen in boatyards. And something I’d like to see more of.
Sailing is easy, boatyards are HARD! Anyone can set the sails, and take the helm. The real difficulties, and the obstacles that Nicole has overcome. That is what impresses me so much. And why I was inspired to make this video.

“This massive refit has been a learning process for me, and there were some projects that I felt required professional expertise. I’d like to give credit where credit is deserved. Brock helped with my electrical install, mentored me through the hull repair, and was the extra hand I needed for just about any project that came up. Craig repaired the worm damage to the rudder and crafted the new mast step. Dylan welded the mast bracket and a spreader brace.
There were also projects that I didn’t have the physical strength to do myself. The guys at the yard were quick to step in when they saw me struggling. Austin and Martin were instrumental in helping me strip the mast. Daniel removed the old bobstay.
I’m also fortunate to have a wonderful community both online and in-person. Coppercoat, Zephyrworks, and Bow to Stern Boating stepped in with their own resources to help with supplies and materials. I’ve received generous donations to cover a portion of the refit expenses, and plenty of people here in the DR have loaned me tools and offered words of wisdom. It’s because of this team effort that I’ve accomplished and grown so much, and I’m grateful.”

Hello & welcome! I’m Daniel aka “Adventureman Dan.” I’ve been living on the edge, from one adventure to another for the past nine years. Stating in Central California with my first GoPro, through SoCal, Baja, New Zealand, Australia, South Africa, Alaska and throughout the whole USA. But for the past five years on my sailboat “Adventureborne” I’m open to unlimited possibilities of where I can go, and what I can do!
