Soaring Above the Waves: A Sailboat to Peak Adventure in St Lucia’s Petite Pon
For the past month, I’ve been living the free-sailing life, exploring whatever islands caught my interest. This season has seen me travel from Grenada through the Grenadines, stopping in Union Island and Walo Bay – a famous film site for Pirates of the Caribbean. While these locations were great, nothing could compare to where I headed next.Sailing Out: The Start of an Epic JourneyRiding on the strength of the trade winds, I set sail for St. Lucia and specifically the Pitons – towering volcanic plugs rising majestically from the ocean depths. Among them stands Petite Piton, a rock climbing challenge that’s as much a part of this island adventure as the sea itself.The First Step: Meeting Jalil and Planning My AscentArriving at St. Lucia, I met Jalil – a trusted local boatman who assists sailors in this challenging anchoring area due to the steep slopes below the surface. His services are essential for accessing these beautiful sites and making sure everything goes smoothly.The Challenge Beckons: The Warm-Up Hike With ZThe next day, I was ready to tackle the climb. My friend and local guide Z took me through a small hike, theSailing back to Saint Lucia for the famous and fantastic "Petit Piton"! Rising straight up out of the water, this is a daunting challenge. But one that I'm keen for. And the view from the top..... World class 360 degrees around!
