Well, it’s finally time to say goodbye to Victoria. We got her knowing she was going to be a parts boat but was still the first boat we ever owned. Feels a little bitter-sweet. On the other hand, she has given us so much! Not only her hardware but also a sense of excitement having her in the yard as we build. Encouragement as we sat in her late at night after a long day of work. Introductions to so many people, including one of her former owners. And of course, teaching us so much about how boats are put together.
In this episode, we take most of her hull apart so that we can then continue on to salvaging her planking and her centerline timbers. Both of which will hopefully be reused (what parts are not rotten) to become our dinghy.

Acorn to Arabella is a boat building project taking place in Granby, Massachusetts. Steve and Alix started as amateur boat builders building their own 38′ wooden boat in their backyard: designer William Atkin’s Ingrid with a Stormy Petrel’s gaff rig. These videos follow the journey from tree felling, to lumber milling, to lofting, to the lead keel pour and beyond—sharing details of the woodworking, carpentry, metal smithing, tool building, and tool maintenance that wooden boats command. This ultimate DIY project will continue well past launch, when they will travel and learn to cruise aboard the boat that they’ve built. Just kidding about all that, this channel is about a Siberian Laika named Akiva.
