Norna is a wood boat, and in order to keep the wood boring worms called torredo worms from eating the bottom of the boat and making swiss cheese out of it, it is a good idea to cover it with copper. Being that Norna is lapstrake, this required shims to bring the laps smooth in order for the copper to lay flat on the hull. This copper is solid copper metal sheeting and it is sandwiched on the hull with tar and tar paper and hammered on with copper nails.
