Part 2 of the 2 part series on how our four day "just a bit of sanding" turned into a four week saga of osmotic blister management.
For our osmosis treatment, we used the following materials. Keep in mind, we have a 40 foot boat with a full keel.
Treatment Manual from Interlux: https://www.international-yachtpaint.com/s3/documents/Guidance/interprotect-guide.pdf
Prep:
- 4 Tarps: 25 by 10 foot 6 mil tarp: https://www.lowes.com/pd/BARRICADE-10-ft-x-25-ft-Clear-6-mil-Plastic-Sheeting/1000158131
- Original Painter's tape (I found Original better than their Sharp Lines versions)
Faring:
- Interlux Watertite for faring all the ground out blisters and any exposed fiberglass or unevenness in the hull - https://www.interlux.com/en/us/boat-paint/filler-and-epoxy/watertite
Paint:
- Interlux 202 - for clean before the barrier boat - https://www.interlux.com/en/us/boat-paint/thinner/fiberglass-solvent-wash-202
- Interlux Interprotect 2000E Grey - We bought 7 gallons, but only used 6 gallons for 5 coats.
- Interlux Micron CSC Red - 1 gallon and 1 quart for one coat.
- Interlux Micron CSC Dark Blue - 3 gallons and 1 quart for three coats.

We are Dev (pronounced Dave) and Spandana (pronounced Spun-The-Nuh), a software engineer and developmental behavioral pediatrician, who gave up everything. Less than 6 months after learning how to sail, we bought a sailboat and jumped into full time cruising. Our Turtle is a 40 foot 1993 Caliber who has had 7 owners before us and has even been salvaged once. Join our adventure as we travel the world, collecting memories and barnacles!
