How We Stay Warm for Winter Van Life (ft. Cooking Dinner in a Walmart Parking Lot)

As beautiful as it is to park in nature and wake up to a sunrise over the lake… sometimes you find yourself in a Walmart parking lot… We promise we’ll find some more picturesque camping spots next time.

Once again, Quebec City proved to be a difficult place to stay in so we set up camp in a Walmart parking lot – our new favourite last minute campsite. It was one of the coldest nights yet and we kept warm using our Mr Buddy propane heater and a candle to help with some of the moisture.

Our van is a 1998 Mitsubishi Delica, originally built in Japan. It is the L400 model with a V6 Gasoline engine, 4×4, locking rear differentials for better off-road performance and plenty of room in the back for our conversion! We also have a large metal roof rack and ladder that will allow us to carry more cargo.
